"HANDS DOWN" - YOUNG DANCERS SHOW THEIR STUFF

TORONTO: MARCH 8, 1999 -- After four years and endless hours of sweat and diligence, the Young Contemporary Dancers of Toronto (YCDT) show they've got their act "hands down" in the company's annual showcase of choreography April 24 and 25 at Dancemakers studio.

Performing 11 different works by Lisa Sandlos, Tom Broujilette, and other guest choreographers, the teenagers display their solid base of Modem technique, spiced up with creativity and improvisation skills. The music for the choreography ranges from the Smashing Pumpkins to the Toronto Tabla Ensemble.

Sandlos, who founded the YCDT downtown recreational dance program in 1995, says this year's show is turning out to be the most exciting so far.

"There is such a high level of enthusiasm in the dancers," says Artistic Director Sandlos, "I'm inspired by their bubbling energy every time I walk in the studio. I believe the audience attending this year's show will be very impressed with what a group of young people is capable of."

This year's showcase of talent will also feature a performance by the Movement Choir, a group of adult dancers.

The YCDT invites the public to attend HANDS DOWN, which takes place April 24 at 8 PM and April 25 at 3 PM at Dancemakers studio, 927 Dupont St. (just west of Ossington). Tickets are $10 in advance, and $12 at the door.
